Path to Productivity

Path to Productivity

Not to continue beating the same drum, but I want to revisit the book Winning the Week: How to Plan A Successful Week, Every Week by Demir and Carey Bentley. Because here is another fun fact—I not only discovered a unique career for Luca Giordano, but while reading this rather short book, a light bulb went off in my head. It was no wonder I was chasing my own tail (so to speak) while trying to be more productive.

Most people who know me would say I’m an organized person. But even so, I’ve had some challenges juggling writing, marketing, ministry, and life in general. Oh, and then about eight months ago, I started podcasting, as well. There are only so many hours in the day—am I right? And the only time it felt as if I was able to stay afloat was when I’d wake up at one or two in the morning and get a four-hour head start to my day.

I know what you’re thinking: You want a little cheese with that whine! Fair enough. But I’d never considered that maybe I just didn’t know how to strategize for optimum productivity. You have Luca to thank for that last sentence. Or rather Demir Bentley, aka Demir Gjokaj. This book changed how I schedule my days.

For the last fifteen years, I’ve been delving into research for my novels, but this is the first time it’s been helpful in any aspect of my life other than spiritual. I actually got excited about keeping a calendar and planning ahead. Of course, just like anything else, it’s important the “calendar” doesn’t become an idol. I don’t bow to the schedule.

And that’s something Luca Giordano had to contend with when left as the sole support of his three young boys. Children don’t adhere to our schedules (and neither do puppies, as I was reminded last October when I unexpectedly acquired one.) This is one of the things that makes Luca more relatable, as I hope you’ll discover if you read Mayhem and Moonlight.
